This role is pivotal to the development of Engineering Support and the success of our global strategy. This function will be responsible for driving a value added partnership with Engineering to make the right critical business decisions. This will also be critical to Engineering’s ability to provide future technology offerings. Network Appliance’s Product Operations group presides over a large and rapidly changing mass of computing equipment used in the development and QA of products for NetApp. The key concern is ensuring a productive engineering environment while maintaining effective cost control and utilization.
The Director of Engineering Support will lead a highly trained staff in budgeting, procuring, installing and supporting hardware. This role will also manage the design and build-out of large scale heterogeneous computing grids and their management software to provide flexible shareable hardware environments.
Work with the development teams in Product Operations to determine their needs, and agree on common strategies. Ensure the teams are providing excellent and highly responsive support to the development teams.
Build a team that can provide a higher level of service to the engineering community in configuration and design of environments to meet the growing requirements of virtualization and optimization of NetApp equipment.
Actively engage in hiring the best and be effective in development to ensure organizational agility. Teams are global in nature: Five sites in 3 countries.
Build relationships with Work Place Resources(on buildings and procurement), IT(on tools and networking), and Finance(on capital budgets).
Drive continued industry leading innovation in datacenter and grid design
Partner with the tools team to ensure highly productive developer environment.
Partner with the sales teams to maximize revenue potential of our datacenter and grid design expertise
Partner with Finance on efforts to control TCO of the engineering labs.
10 years experience in managing an international Engineering or IT organization
Experience in data center design, virtualization, computing grids and their software implications
Solid knowledge of the financial implications of an IT organization
Strong track record in excelling in the communication with engineers, vendors and finance
Experience in leveraging IT expertise in customer facing role – preferred
Must be comfortable in working with a fast moving organization – and agile enough to addressing rapidly evolving customer requirements |
